Free Volleyball Lineup Sheet – Templates and Tips

GMS-Stripe-Box

High school volleyball coaches are required by NFHS rules to provide a team roster to officials at the coin toss before each match, and a completed volleyball lineup sheet at least one minute before the beginning of each individual set.

you provide your team’s serving order

When you are filling out your lineup sheet, you will write the number of your first server in the top box of your lineup. (This is different than club volleyball.)

If you are the team serving first, your top box will be the jersey number of the player serving the first rally of the set.

But if you are the receiving team, your top box will be the jersey number of the player in the right-front rotation on the court. After your team scores a side out rally, your team will rotate and this player will be your team’s first server of the set.

examples

High school volleyball teams are allowed to start a set in any of the six rotations, but many coaches consistently start in rotation 1 if they are the serving team. Here is what that would look like on a lineup sheet.

Rotation 1 Server • Setter • #0

Rotation 2 Server • OH • #5

Rotation 3 Server • MB • #15

Rotation 4 Server • OPP • #18

Rotation 5 Server • OH • #10

Rotation 6 Server • MB • #7

If you are the receiving team and want to have your setter as the first server, you would start in rotation 6 as the receiving team. Therefore, your volleyball lineup sheet would look exactly the same because after you side out, you’d rotate into rotation 1 and your setter would be your first server. The only change in the lineup sheets is that a defensive specialist, jersey #6, is in for OPP #18. When the team sides out, #0 will rotate into the serving position, and #18 will sub into the match for #6.

Rotation 1 Server • Setter • #0

Rotation 2 Server • OH • #5

Rotation 3 Server • MB • #15

Rotation 4 Server • DS • #6

Rotation 5 Server • OH • #10

Rotation 6 Server • MB • #7

If you are the receiving team, but still want to start in rotation 1, your first server after you side out would be your outside hitter. Therefore your lineup sheet needs to reflect your outside hitter as the first server.

Rotation 1 Server • Setter • #0

Rotation 2 Server • OH • #5

Rotation 3 Server • MB • #15

Rotation 4 Server • OPP • #18

Rotation 5 Server • OH • #10

Rotation 6 Server • MB • #7

designate a libero

High school rules allow only one libero per set. (This is another difference from club volleyball.) On your lineup sheet, you will designate one libero, and this is the only player that can play libero throughout the set.

If you would like to forego the option of using a libero in the set, you can leave this square blank.

designate a speaking captain and alternate captain

A speaking team captain, along with an alternate captain, should be designated on the lineup sheet. The speaking captain is the only player who is allowed to speak to the R1 throughout the set. If the speaking captain is off the floor, the alternate captain takes her place as the speaking captain.

If both are off the floor, the R2 should ask you for a new captain.

You can designate your captains by writing a “C” or “A” next to the player’s jersey number on the lineup sheet.
